2011 Eisteddfod
The 65th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod took place from Monday 4th - Sunday 10th July 2011.
Competitions
This year’s competitions provided the audience with a fantastic opportunity to see a wide range of choirs and dancers performing at their very best. The number of overseas and UK competitors were higher than in 2010, with 43 countries represented in total!
Choirs, dance groups, musicians, and vocal soloists from all around the world came together to compete in 28 competitions. The Folk Showcase, a new competition for 2011, gave a fabulous opportunity for groups to demonstrate their own cultures. There was a bumper crop of applications for this competition, and the standard was really high. The worthy winners were Cheong Bae - South Korea.

Concerts
The week got off to a glittering start as Lulu took to the stage alongside special guests Rick Astley and Kiki Dee. On Tuesday evening a sell-out crowd enjoyed a stunning performance from Russell Watson, who was joined by Eisteddfod favourite Faryl Smith. Wednesday's One World, One Stage concert played host to the traditional Eisteddfod Welcoming Ceremony. Thursday evening saw the biggest community participation in a concert the Eisteddfod has ever seen, with hundreds of school children singing in Benjamin Britten's Noye's Fludde and an orchestra made up of local musicians. The West End came to Llangollen on Friday, with Ruthie Henshall and special guests performing a dazzling programme of musical favourites. The Adventist University Choir from the Philippines took the Choir of the World trophy on Saturday evening. Rounding off the week on Sunday, the Pavilion was well and truly rocked by McFly with support from City Stereo and The Sublimes.
On The Field and In The Town
On Tuesday, an otherwise unsettled day was broken by an hour of glorious sunshine for the traditional Eisteddfod Street Parade. As colourful as ever, the procession headed from the festival site into the town, cheered on by hundreds of locals. Throughout the week the series of @SIX Concerts proved as popular as ever, with artists including European jazz/folk fusion group Djabe, Cor Rhos a'r Cylch, winners of S4C's Codi Canu and Eisteddfod favourites Jamie Smith's Mabon. The week ended with a new innovation - Sunday On The Field This day of live music featuring local, regional and national acts saw over a thousand people flock to the field for more than twenty performances ranging from rock to blues, reggae, pop, acoustic and everything in between across three stages.
